DJ & PRESENTER ACADEMY

‘Music is the absolute leveller. Music is averse to racism, sexism, ageism and prejudice. Music does NOT discriminate regardless of your heritage, creed, colour, academic or other qualifications, financial status, religion, or appearance. Music is the expression & voice of your soul. Music is the gateway to realising the impossible!’
Morgan Khan, CEO, Street Sounds

A great way of educating & entertaining suitably aged children / young adults.

The STREET SOUNDS ACADEMY is unique and was created for students aged 8 to 18 who have an interest in DJing and/or radio presenting. The courses are designed to give students confidence and inspire them while having fun, to develop their skills and bring out their creative abilities, within a professional, authoritative and 'hands-on' environment. Students are taught by working DJs and radio Presenters and the three different course levels we offer, ‘Beginners’, ‘Intermediate’ and ‘Advance’ provide the skills, information and experience needed to help students understand all aspects of what is needed to become a club DJ and/or radio Presenter.

August 2022 (pilot event)

In August 2022, we launched the Street Sounds DJ & Presenter Academy. Our first students were aged between 8 and 14, all are young carers and our course provided them with a well-deserved and earned break, it also gave them respite from their responsibilities. We hope our course will inspire them! The booking was made by Deniece Dimmick, Young Carers Support Team Leader, Southend Carers: “I would just like to say the biggest thank you to Street Sounds Radio Academy for making this happen! Music is an outlet for so many people, and this was certainly the case for our Young Carers who enjoyed learning the basics of what it takes to be a DJ & Radio Presenter” (see full testimonial below).

Academy courses are designed to MAKE LEARNING FUN, right from the basics to the advanced, our curriculum enables all students whatever their aptitude to learn in a safe and friendly environment, to socialise & exchange ideas with likeminded souls. Our budding DJs & presenters build confidence & self-esteem which we hope will help them realise the opportunities that await them. Truly aspirational. Based in the same building as our radio station studios, we offer DJ and Presenter courses for novices (Beginners), enthusiasts (Intermediate) and Advance (getting ready for DJ'ing and broadcasting). It doesn’t matter if the students have never touched DJ/radio equipment! We are placed to offer students a unique ‘workshop’, where they can gain hands-on experience, with exceptional facilities and tutors.

Students learn both in our LIVE BROADCAST studios & then move into the DJ Superstore (same building), one of the most successful and prestigious DJ equipment suppliers in the UK, where we have setup our classroom. There is of course the necessary theory to learn, but also hands-on experience with leading, industry standard DJ & radio broadcast equipment and software.

We offer three different levels of courses: Beginner, Intermediate and Advance. Our first Beginner course took place at the end of August.

Currently we find 5 students per group works well (Individual one-to-one sessions may become available later). Ages 8 to 13 and 14 to 17 are currently catered for with plans to offer additional courses under consideration.

Testimonial
Yesterday our young carers had the absolute privilege of attending Street Sounds DJ & Presenter Course. Our young carers were blown away with the latest pioneer equipment and having a tour of the Street Sounds Radio Station!

Reece was a fabulous Tutor & the kid’s remained engaged throughout the day & contributed a lot to the discussions.

Like so many of us music is life, I personally could not imagine my life without music & nor would I want too! Music is also an outlet/ therapy for so many Adults & young people. This was certainly the case for our Young Carers who enjoyed learning the basics of what a Radio DJ/ Radio presenter is as well as some hands on learning on the equipment. As you will see from the photos/ videos & the smiles on their faces and I am blessed to of got to be part of this experience and watch our Young Carers having so much fun.

For those of you who are unaware of what a Young Carer is… A Young Carer is a child who is age 5-17 years of age of is an unpaid carer to their loved ones – Mother, Father, Brother, Sister, Nan, Grandad & this can be due to terminal illness, chronic illness, disability, learning disability, addiction or mental health problems. My Role here at Southend Young Carers is to offer them & their families emotional support as well as arrange some truly incredible activities/ events with the help of organisations like Street Sounds Academy, So our young carers can receive the much needed break they deserve and a chance just to be a care free child with no responsibilities.

I would just like to say the biggest thank you to DJ Reece Collins & of course the incredible Morgan Khan for making this Happen!
